Desmond Doss was the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor, the US Army's highest award. Refusing to kill or bear arms out of religious conviction during the Second World War, he saved many lives as a military orderly.

Desmond Doss enlisted in the United States Army Infantry in 1942. A member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, his convictions forbade him to use a weapon. That's why he was assigned to the army's medical staff.
