An educational sanction can also be restorative , even if there is nothing in particular to repair as a result of theact: in this case, we propose a restorative sanction – an action dissociated from the act in question – which will improve something around it (e.g. repainting…) or contribute to a good cause (running for an NGO…).
A real-life family example:
For the nth time, Daniel* hadn’t tidied up his room. His mom decided to surprise him with the following punishment (actually a very good example of an educational and restorative punishment) – she asked him not only to tidy his room, but to spend the following Sunday selling oranges at a well-known NGO event. To the mother’s surprise, Daniel was instantly delighted, and enthusiastically sold the oranges. Then, whenever he felt he had to tidy up his room, he thought of his pleasant day selling oranges.
