Definition proposed by Graines de Paix (common usage):

A representation and awareness of the value of our inner and outer selves, which we often wish to project outwards, sometimes very strongly, and then at the expense of others. At the extremes, this representation can be over-dimensional or, on the contrary, very fragile, on edge, one often going hand in hand with the other.

Many conflicts arise and explode due to the over-inflated or over-fragile ego of a person or group of people. In extreme cases, even a constructive, benevolent remark can provoke a disproportionate reaction.

Ego, conflict, violence, peace

Ego problems are probably the first cause of violence, even before feelings of injustice. This is particularly the case for conflicts over power, love and self-esteem, and for conflicts where a group’s ego is limited to a cultural, ethnic, religious or national identity – so narrow as to deny the existence of other identities.

The awakening of consciousness, the awakening to human values and to the humanity of others, the awakening to inner peace, enables us to develop a serenity of the ego, in the sense of representation and awareness of its value, beyond egocentricity, towards relationships of peace.
