American-born Buddhist nun, born Deirdre Blomfield-Brown, Director of the Gampo Abbey Buddhist Center in Canada since 1986. Her aim is to enable the application of Buddhist teachings to everyday life.
Biography:
Pema Chödrön became a Buddhist nun in 1974, following the teachings of Lama Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, then Chime Rinpoche. She had turned to Buddhism after her second divorce.
She had previously been a school teacher.
Today, she teaches Buddhist precepts at the Gampo Center and at UC Berkeley.
