The first president of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, he worked during decolonization to establish a Franco-African community, and to modernize the economies of African countries, in order to limit the negative effects of colonial occupation.

Biography:

Félix Houphouët-Boigny first worked as a doctor from 1925 to 1939. But when his brother died, he returned to his village of Yamoussoukro to become its chief. There, he cultivated cocoa and coffee on the plantation inherited from his father, and later built a dispensary at his own expense. During this period, he considerably improved not only the yield of his plantations, but also hygiene conditions in the region.
