Jewish philosopher and theologian of rationality, as well as physician to the court of Saladin and the poor of Fostat, Egypt.
Country: Andalusian (Almoravid period, Iberian peninsula)
Biography:
Maimonides is one of the great figures of Jewish philosophy. He brought Greek rational thought to Judaism, particularly that of Aristotle, and democratized oral religious texts by carefully writing them down, commenting on them extensively and exercising a freedom of thought that forced him, at certain times in his life, to write with circumspection and go into hiding.
