Eco-agriculturist and humanist writer advocating respect for mankind and the environment.
Country: French of Algerian origin
Biography:
An advocate of a society that respects people and the earth, he is a fervent supporter of farming practices that respect the environment and natural resources, particularly in arid countries. His books also express the beauty and importance of human values.
Born in a Muslim oasis in Algeria, he was raised by a wealthier French couple, but under the watchful eye of his biological parents.
He spent his childhood between Algeria and France.
In 1958, when the Algerian war broke out, he moved to Paris.
After a difficult career as a farm laborer, he quickly realized that intensive agriculture was destructive to our world. A forerunner of farming that respects nature, he set an example by training trainees on his model farm, then giving courses. He brought his skills to many countries (Burkina-Faso Morocco, Palestine, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Mauritania, Poland, Ukraine...) and developed the Oasis concept everywhere. In 1994, he founded the Terre et Humanisme association, which advocates eco-agriculture (http://www.terre-humanisme.org/), followed in 2007 by the International Movement for Earth and Humanism. He organizes conferences and workshops with his own film shoots. A proponent of alter-globalism, he takes part in the European Social Forum.
