There is as yet no universally accepted definition, but in simple terms, it is a private association or foundation (not under the control of a state), whose purpose is of public utility (activities of public interest and/or humanitarian), whose reach extends beyond national borders(several countries in the world), and whose profits are entirely allocated to the pursuit of its goal.
