{"id":8398,"date":"2025-06-25T08:27:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T06:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/academy.grainesdepaix.org\/ressources\/courage\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T15:51:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T13:51:46","slug":"courage","status":"publish","type":"ressource","link":"https:\/\/academy.grainesdepaix.org\/en\/ressources\/courage\/","title":{"rendered":"Courage"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"parent-fieldname-text\">\n<ul>\n<li>Courage characterizes people who have the strength of character to overcome fear or suffering.<\/li>\n<li>The absence of fear is characteristic of people with great serenity.<\/li>\n<li>The absence of suffering characterizes people with the ability to refocus on joy in all things.<\/li>\n<li>The absence of the feeling of disappointment characterizes people capable of detachment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So courage is <em>not<\/em> the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it, while the absence of fear means that the person doesn&#8217;t think he&#8217;s proved his courage, but his mastery of it, so that he&#8217;s all amazed when others praise him for his courage.<\/p>\n<p>Above all, the absence of fear or suffering are human qualities just as valuable as courage, but insufficiently recognized and valued.<\/p>\n<p>NB: Most dictionaries do not (yet) make the link between fear and courage, nor differentiate between courage and fearlessness. See for example: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Larousse: <br \/> Firmness, strength of character that enables you to face danger, suffering, setbacks and difficult circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>Littr\u00e9:<br \/> Firmness that makes you endure or brave peril, suffering, setbacks, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The CNRTL:<br \/> Firmness of heart, strength of soul, shown in difficult situations requiring a decision or choice, or in the face of danger or suffering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courage characterizes people who have the strength of character to overcome fear or suffering.
