Written in 2000, they are even more urgent today. <\/p>\n<p><b>The text of the Manifesto 2000 of the International Movement for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence (UNESCO) :<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Because the year 2000 must be a new beginning,<br \/> the opportunity to transform &#8211; together &#8211; the culture of war and violence into a culture of peace and non-violence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Because such a transformation requires the participation of everyone, and must offer young people and<br \/> future generations the values that will help them shape a world that is fairer, more supportive, freer, dignified and harmonious<br \/> and more prosperous for all.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Because a culture of peace makes sustainable development, environmental protection and personal fulfillment possible.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Because I&#8217;m aware of my share of responsibility for the future of humanity, and in particular for the children of today and tomorrow:<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>I MAKE A COMMITMENT IN MY DAILY LIFE, MY FAMILY, MY WORK, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY AND MY REGION, TO :<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Respect all lives.<br \/>  Respect the life and dignity of every human being without discrimination or prejudice.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Reject violence.<br \/> Practice active non-violence, rejecting violence in all its forms: physical, sexual, psychological,<br \/> economic and social, especially towards the most disadvantaged and vulnerable such as children and adolescents.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Unleash my generosity.<br \/>  To share my time and material resources by cultivating generosity, in order to put an end to exclusion, injustice and political and economic oppression.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Listening for mutual understanding.<br \/> Defend freedom of expression and cultural diversity by always giving priority to listening and dialogue, without giving in to fanaticism, backbiting or the rejection of others.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Preserving the planet.&#8221;<br \/> Promote responsible consumption and a mode of development that takes into account the importance of all forms of life and preserves the balance of the planet&#8217;s natural resources.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Reinventing solidarity.&#8221;<br \/> To contribute to the development of my community, with the full participation of women and respect for democratic principles, in order to create, together, new forms of solidarity.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a id=\"eztoc130581_0_0_1\" name=\"eztoc130581_0_0_1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>NOTES<\/h4>\n<p>The Manifesto was drafted by a group of Nobel Peace Prize winners. It translates United Nations resolutions into everyday language, making them accessible to as many people as possible. <\/p>\n<p>Manifesto 2000 is neither an appeal nor a petition to higher authorities, but a commitment to responsibility that begins at the level of the individual.<\/p>\n<p>The Manifesto 2000 was made public in Paris on March 4, 1999 at an international press conference at<br \/>Tour Eiffel, and was offered for signature by the general public worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><b>Over 50 million signatures<\/b> were received by UNESCO by the end of September 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 1999, the Manifesto wrote:<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Because a culture of peace makes sustainable development, environmental protection and personal fulfilment<\/i><\/b><b><i> and personal fulfillment.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each of these phrases is developed below.
