Respect is a word whose contours are blurred for many. What’s more, its meaning is evolving as it begins to be recognized not just as a feeling or an attitude, but above all as a fundamental human value to be transmitted.  <\/p>\n

Traditional definitions are:<\/p>\n

The feeling of treating someone with great respect.

Deference shown to someone in high regard.

For a child, the word is often limited to rules of politeness, because its humanist meaning is insufficiently taught.<\/p>\n

These standard definitions don’t take reality into account. Today, the word respect is no longer really defined as a feeling of great consideration, but as a minimum act of consideration<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The definition therefore extends downwards to encompass:
behavior that does not cause physical or moral harm to another person, whoever that may be, in the spirit of not doing to another what one does not wish for oneself.<\/p>\n

The definition also expands to include the act:<\/p>\n

– to consider others, recognizing their right to exist, their humanity
– to accept others, whatever their differences
– to accept each other, with reciprocity, whatever those differences may be.<\/p>\n

More importantly, respect is the first step in creating a bond with others<\/i>, since respect means treating others as human beings, not as objects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
